Limited Capacity filling up

PLEASE NOTE: This venue has changed to accomodate more attendees! There may be standing room only.

As a new business you don’t necessarily need a full-scale formal version of a business plan but you do need to have one, in fact if you are looking for a condensed business plan, consider yourself ahead of the pack.  A condensed business plan will describe how you are going to turn your vision of a successful business into a reality and describe where your business will be over time and how you are going to effectively manage your business.   Lastly, a business plan will send a message loud and clear you understand your business, the challenges and can deliver the results.

How to Talk with Customers - about Them, about You
Limited Capacity filling up

This panel will run concurrently with other Art/Marketing talks.

Struggle with what to say after “Hello" or "Thank you"?  Sales is about observation, and eliciting and sharing information!

In this fun, interactive workshop, "Wearing Many Hats," Mary Bahus-Meyer of Full Circle Creative gives volunteers different hats to wear and customer roles to assume, while she and the rest of the audience ask questions to figure out what each “client" might need or want to buy.

Are your clients artists, business owners, tourists?  Asking targeted questions shows you care about their needs and helps you determine what to share with them.

Put on your Sherlock Holmes hat to solve what to tell customers about you or your product!  Become a brilliant conversationalist in one hour!

Winning Commissions and Custom Work
Limited Capacity filling up

This panel will run concurrently with other Art/Marketing talks.

Know what you need to know before doing commission work, which is very different from creating a work of art, then displaying and selling it.  Three experienced artists - Sharon Anhorn, Cary Hosterman, and Jim Fronapfel - give short presentations, a panel discussion is moderated by sculptor Joe Norman, and is followed by a 10 minute Q & A and sharing by the audience. These talented Loveland artists will share their experiences finding and winning commissions:
  • Sharon Anhorn (interior designer, repousse and glass artist) will share experiences with several clients (DU, former Coach Mike Shanahan), interior designers, and as an interior designer herself.
  • Carey Hosterman (bronze sculptor) will talk about commissions from churches and royalty, and the challenge of creating and shipping large, heavy work.
  • Jim Fronapfel (painter, mixed media) will speak about the importance of building relationships, top-of-mind awareness, and how this led to several European commissions for paintings.

Discussion includes meeting with clients, creating designs and samples, contracts and deposits, and the extreme importance of communication and documentation, especially in writing.

In a recent survey, 59% of business-to-business marketers say email is the most effective channel for generating revenue. Email marketing is an affordable, simple and measurable form of commercial marketing to a group of people. In today’s digital society, email has become the best way to connect with a direct audience.  During this talk, Stu Crair, Owner and Training Manager for Digital Workshop Center, will cover some of the advantages and best practices of email marketing for small business.

Understanding the Universe of Marketing
Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Between clients who (having been inundated by the latest guru’s advice) insist on pushing nonsense on a customer that’s not interested – not the right demographic, not the right target market, not the right messaging – and clients who insist on chasing the wrong metrics – numbers that have no tie to business ROI, sales, or anything other than digital popularity (ie: likes) – most marketers just give up on tracking any sort of meaningful marketing ROI.

What is a legitimate marketing ROI? It comes down to asking 4 questions:

  1. What is the business metric we want to change? (sales, butts-in-seats, volunteerism, sentiment improvement)
  2. To what degree do we want to change it?
  3. What levers will we pull to change it?
  4. How will we know if we were successful?
Marketing as a whole can be re-examined from top to bottom for startups, and it's not as hard as it seems (and should probably never result in a dusty binder where your looked-at-once-per-year "marketing plan" resides).

Facebook: Advanced Workshop
Limited Capacity seats available

For businesses in 2017, Facebook is very much a "pay to play" platform.  It is common for page managers, especially those with more than 500,000 likes, to see organic post reach as low as 2%.  Fewer people seeing your page's organic posts on Facebook means fewer clicks, comments, and shares. Audience engagement of .5%-.99% is now considered to be normal or even good.  So how can businesses achieve their marketing goals on Facebook without breaking the bank?

This workshop is for business owners and Facebook page managers who would like to take their Facebook marketing to the next level, through paid ads and post boosts.  We will talk about the differences between boosting Facebook posts and ads created through Facebook's Ads Manager, sharing case studies from the Rialto Theater and other businesses.  Bring your computer, and we'll walk you through adding a Facebook Pixel to your website, and creating two different types of Facebook ads.

Renaissance in Your Art Career
Limited Capacity seats available

Every artist faces a moment when something’s gotta change. There’s the part-time artist who works a boring job all week to fund one weekend day of real creativity. The sculptor who’s been successfully selling expensive pieces, until the market suddenly dries up. The painter who suddenly realizes that figuring out how to make something that sells just became an existential crisis. The artist who just feels stale and really needs a refresh. But what to do? Take the risk to commit more deeply to your work? Find collaborators? Change your creative process?  Join this in-the-round discussion. Listen, and share your own story.
